Samsung Instinct: Not the iPhone, But Very Close to It

The Samsung Instinct is a great device to have for those people who want to have iPhone-like features, but do not want to get the iPhone itself!

The Samsung Instinct is a touch screen phone in a manner identical to Apple’s popular device, but that is where the comparison must end. The Instinct offers a slew of features that makes it one of the better phones in its category.

Measuring 4.57 inches by 2.17 inches by 0.49 inch, the thin candy bar style phone from Samsung weighs just 4.4 ounces. The display on the touch screen supports 262,000 colors and has a 432,240-pixel resolution. Equipped with a 2.0 megapixel camera, the Samsung Instinct can store up to 5,000 images.

Memory-wise the phone has a 2GB MicroSD Card that is expandable up to8GB. The phone boasts of two 1,000mAh Lithium-ion batteries, each capable of 5.75 hours of continuous talk time.

For corporate users, the Samsung Instinct offers 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) network compatibility, integrated GPS, and work e-mail support. With a sleek and intuitive design, the Samsung Instinct offers buyers style plus substance in a powerful package.

Features like multimedia messaging, voice dialing and video recording and a contact book that can hold 600 names makes the Instinct a mean device.

If there’s one feature that leaves users wanting more, its the web browser. The Samsung Instinct has a full HTML browser where users can see scaled down mobile versions of websites. However there is no support for Flash.

Another issue is the lack of support for Wi-Fi and instant messaging. Apps and games include Sprint’s NFL Mobile Application and games like Bejeweled, Brain Challenge, Sudoku, Midnight Bowling, Million Dollar Poker, Nascar Sprint Cup, Scene It, and Pac-Man.

The Samsung Instinct is available on Sprint for $129 with a two-year “Simply Everything” plan, which costs $70 per month.plan, which costs $70 per month.

DCube D9

For all you PMP fans out there, the D’Cube D9 (an upgrade to the D7 and D5) has been announced and it is packing a nice set of features; a 320 x 240 3.5-inch screen, 2 or 4GB of built-in memory and a microSD/SDHC expansion slot. It supports live T-DMB (available only in Korea, of course) and is capable of playing MP3, WMA, OGG, AVI, WMV and JPG files. The D9 is equipped with a 1450 mAh Li-Po battery that is capable of 15 hours of audio playback, 8 hours of video playback and 6.5 of live T-DMB . It is also able to record T-DMB over-the-air programming, which would make it sort of a portable Korea-only TiVo of sorts. Did I mention that it also includes a strap and a nifty kickstand? No word on availability, but when it does drop, expect to pay about 128,000 won or about $130 green backs for the 4GB version.

Gelaskins Motherboard Styled Graphic

While I am normally not a big fan of covering my notebook or phone with lots of stickers or graphics, the latest offering from Gelaskins may convince me to change my thoughts just a little bit. Its a motherboard styled image, which was created by Derek Prospero.

Gelaskins offers vinyl decals that are made from a “premium grade 3M vinyl” for a variety of laptops, both Mac and PC as well as the iPhone and iPod. The laptop decals seem to all be $29.95, while the iPhone and iPod decals are $14.95. The artwork for the decals are all being licensed from various artists.

After all what geek would not want to have their motherboard on the outside, now I just have to decide whether I want to skin my notebook, phone or both. Of course, if they motherboard look is not for you they have a huge selection to choose from.

Miscrosoft's Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000

I don’t know what the occasion is, but apparently Microsoft has decided to dish out its Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 in 5 dazzlingly bright colors. And no, the one pictured here is not pink, so stop your hating. This, my friend, is what the color Dragon Fruit looks like. At least that’s true according to Microsoft. Other colors include Aloe, Milk Chocolate, and Creme Brulee, and Pomegranate. You’ll be able to get these babies from Best Buy in May for around $30, and will reportedly be rolling out to other stores by June. Artsy type geeks, I think, are gonna love this.
